In 1997 oil company 'Shell' collaborated with Corinthian to produce a range of 12 figures of South African sporting icons. The figures were given away at petrol stations.

They were made available in sealed sachet format only which meant you had no way of knowing which of the 12 figures you would receive. The figures came with a collector file but no collector cards were produced.

Initially very hard to obtain which led to collectors paying near £30 the set of 3 footballers, nowadays they can sell for a little as £1 each ,due to the market being flooded some years back.

The 3 football players chosen to be included in the range were:
Doctor Khumalo
Lucas Radebe
John 'Shoes' Moshoeu

As these figures were done in conjuction with another company thye were made with oval bases as opposed to the standard round base. A great set of figures and the Radebe in particular is a fine sculpt with a very distinctive hair style, indeed it is only radebe who has been released again, the other 2 have never again been released by Corinthian.

These figures were originally released in August 1997 and all 3 were retired by Corinthian on the 13th August 2000.

Here is an example of a single sealed sachet from the Shell range of South African figures.

There was no way of telling which of the 12 figures you would get.

Each of the sachets contained 1 figure and the collectors information file which depicted the full range of figures available.

Here is the collectors information file which accompanied this release. The file depicts all 12 figures which were available. The figures were released on oval bases as opposed to the standard round base with 3 of them released on a base colour other than green!
