Series 7 - England Squad
Prostars series 7 was released on the 12th May 2000, to coincide with the European championships being held in Holland and Belgium. Corinthian released two different versions of Prostars series 7, one for the England squad and another for the European Superstars. The England squad consisted of 11 England players along with the manager Kevin Keegan, there were actually 3 differnet body poses released for Michael Owen, making the total number of figures 14.
The figures were released in Corinthians standard blisterpack, aswell as in the window box format. The range itself gave us 3 all new first time sculpts, which were Frank Lampard, Emile Heskey and Kevin Phillips. All 3 of those sculpts were fantastic likeness of the actual player, with the facial expression on Phillips being very memorable. Both Heskey and Phillips had been highly asked for by collectors, so it was no surprise to see both of thise very quickly sell out.
Also in the range were 3 new sculpts of existing figures, those were David Seaman, Sol Campbell and David Batty, all of which were improvements on the previous version, the Sol Campbell in particular was a much better sculpt. The remainder of the range is made up of repaints of previous figures. Kieron Dyer was featured in series 5, as was David Beckham, with the Owen figures being the same used for series 2. This was the last sculpt of England legend Alan Shearer in an England shirt as he retired from international football following the end of the tournament, the figure used was the same as appeared in series 3. Tony Adams featured again, but this was the first time this sculpt had been made available singly, the other time he was included in the Arsenal 12 player box set.
Kevin Keegan was released for the second time as a manager, this was a much better sculpt than the one released in the FAPL Collection for Newcastle United, i dare say a few of these figures were ritually burnt after England's early exit from the tournament!
In additon to these 14 figures, there were also 3 figures in the Red away kit to collect, these were available by collecting the tokens which came with each figure, you needed just 6 tokens to claim 1 free redemption figure. These figures were called redemption figures and were packaged in clear sachets with collector card, however no blister packs of the redemption figures were produced.
The range was initially very well recieved but after Enlgand exited the tournament, interest in the range quickly ceased but due to lower production volumes the range was still a very collectable one. Each figure came accompanied by the collector card and also a collectors information file.
