Corinthian's first ever release was a set of 16 figures in the England national kit, released in October 1995, well before the European Championship Tournament in 1996.
The launch for the figures took place at 'The Compleat Angler' in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. David Seaman was at the launch, signing the 12 player box sets, it is fair to say the figures were an instant hit.
Following on from the success of both the England national range and the FAPL Collection, Corinthian released the England national series 2 figures in April 1996, this series comprised of 24 figures.
November 1997 heralded the release of the England national series 3 range, an all new set made up of 24 figures, 12 available as single blisters and the remaining 12 made solely available in a 12 player pack. The figures were painted in the kit England were to wear for the upcoming 1998 world cup, to be held in France. Corinthian also released some special edition figures in this range, a mail away figure of Paul Scholes alongside 2 figures released in the Red away kit, just prior to the World Cup starting in June 1998. The 2 figures were Alan Shearer and Paul Ince and were exclusively sold at Sainsburys.
Corinthian extended it's porfolio licenses and acquired the rights to produce figures in the national kits for these nations- France, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Japan and also South Africa. Some of these figures were produced in collaboration with another company, so the bases for the figures were changed to 'Oval' as opposed to the standard 'Round' base, to distinguish the difference in ranges. These figures were originally distributed solely in their respective countries but Corinthian did manage to acquire very limited amounts of them, most of which were sent to their official collector centres and also sold at the Conventions. Some savvy collectors managed to gain contacts in some of these countries and profited largely from being able to supply the market with these rare figures.
Amidst World Cup fever, Corinthian released a set of 6 figures under a new banner of 'Worldstars, this set comprised of just 6 figures, 3 of which were in club kits and the other 3 in national kits. It does seem a shame that Corinthian did not release a more comprehensive set to commemorate the World Cup as surely appetite for their little figures would have been at it's peak during this period.
Corinthian really did produce some sublime figures in National kits, quite a few of which were never again released, causing many of these figures to be very collectible even today.
