MIDDLESBROUGH 95/96
A total of 8 figures were released for Middlesbrough in the kit worn for the 1995/96 season.
7 out of the 8 figures were all original first time sculpts, the only already released figure was 'Nicky Barmby' who had previously been released in the England national range of figures. It is worth mentioning that the Barmby figure was originally planned to be released for Tottenham Hotspur but he secured a move to the 'Boro' so Corinthian changed the figure after the master was made and painted the figure into the Middlebrough kit. This explains why his 'PL' number is 'PL08' whereas the other Boro figures 'PL' numbers all end in '5.'
This set gave us the first ever release of Bryan Robson, shortly before he entered into management. Juninho was also released and his figure was almost life size! The Juninho figure proved immensly popular amongst collectors,as did the figure of ' Jan Aage Fjortoft.' The Fjortoft figure varied from the picture on the collector card, the facial sculpt was the same but the body pose was different, like many of these figures he was never released again.
The set was completed by yet another 4 first time and 1 off sculpts. Hard working defender 'Neil Cox' was released alongside 'John Hendrie, Jamie Pollock and Jamie Moreno.' All are great sculpts and the ones which are valuable today are the 'Robson' and the 'Cox' figures. Many other figures were planned but sadly never released.
