Corinthain regularly attended the Memorabilia show, so decided to produce a special limited edition figurine to release solely at these shows. These ProStars were released on BLACK base and in clear sachet format, with a collector card. n total, 44 figure were released as part of the ProStars Memorabilia series, wth the first released in November 2001 and the last 4 years later in November 2005.
The very first Corinthian ProStars figure released as part of the Memorabilia series was Michael Owen in the England home kit, this was done to commemorate England's historic 5-1 victory over Germany in a World Cup qualifier, which took place in Munich on the 1st September 2001.
It was almost 12 months until the next figures were released in this range, with a further 3 added in August 2002. Those 3 figures being Rio Ferdinand for England, Gabriel Batistua for Argentina and Thierry Henry for France, all in away kit.
November 2002 saw the next set released, Rivaldo for Brazil, Ruud Van Nistlerooy for Holland and Sergio Concecaio for Portugal, all in home kit, with an away kit release of Javier Saviola for Argentina. The next set of 4 were all away kit figures, Luis Figo for Portugal, Thierry Henry for Arsenal, Gianfranco Zola for Chelsea and Darius Vassell for Aston Villa, with the release date being April 2003.
July 2003 gave collectors another 4 Memorabilia ProStars, with Diego Forlan for Uruguay and Peter Lovenkrands for Denmark in home kits, and Hidetoshi Nakata for Japan and Alessandro Del Piero for Italy, both in away kit. 4 more figures were added to the range in November 2003, with agian 2 being in home kit and 2 in away kit, the 2 home kit figures were Ronaldinho Brazil and Mustapha Hadji for Morocco. The 2 away kit figures chosen were Andrea Pirlo for Italy and Abel Xavier for Portugal.
The first release of Memorabilia figures in 2004 took place in April, with Cafu coing out in AC Milan 3rd kit, Andy Cole for Blackburn Rovers, Jamie Redknapp for Tottenham Hotspur and Christian Vieri for Inter Milan, all in away kit. August of that year saw the next set of 4 released, this time all in home kit, Roberto Carlos for Brazil, Luis Figo fr Portugal, Raul for Spain and Zinedine Zidane for France. November saw yet 4 more added to the series, Adriano for Brazil, Tim Howard for USA and Carles Puyol for Spain being the home kit releases, with Robert Pires for France being the only release in away kit.
In April 2005 collectors had 4 more figures to add to the collection, another all home kit release, with claude Makele for France, Manuel Rui Costa for Portugal, Damien Duff for Ireland and Arjen Robben for Holland. August of 2005 saw Deco for Portugal in away kit and in home kit we had Mateja Kezmand for Serbia&Montenegro, Mario Melchiot for Holland and Javier Zanetti for Argentina.
The last set of Corinthian ProStars Memorabilia figures was released in November 2005, 4 years after the first figure in this range was released. The last 4 were all national home kit figures, Ludovic Giuly for France, Gabriel Heinze for Argentina, Obafemi Martins for Argentina and lastly Kolo Toure for the Ivory Coast.
A fine seris of figures, made unique by having the figures on BLACK bases. Although this series gave collectors no new sculpts, it did give some interesting away kit repaints and the Toure in Ivory Coast home kit is a superbly painted figure. Most are failr easily and cheapy obtained, i would estimate Robben to be perhaps the rarest in this set. What limited it's collectability was the fact they were only released in clear sachet format, had they been released in blister packs the range would have been much more collectible.
