January 2003 saw corinthian collaborate with Japense distributor Foot Circle, to released a range of 4 Collectors Edition blister packs. These limited edition figures were not released in a conventional way, they were randomly packed into what the Japanese called 'Lucky Boxes' with each box containing a blister pack from a previous series, a clear sachet product and a MicroStars capsule.
The limited edition blister packs were packed randomly into boxes, with each box retailing at the Japnese equivilant of around £10. This Lucky Box format was a great way for the Japan distributor to lcear old stock they were otherwise struglling to sell and also gave collectors something to chase.
These blister packs did eventually make their way onto the secondary market, selling for around £50 each, however the price dropped over time and can be picked up for less than £20 each.
The 4 figures chosen were Brazilian forward Rivaldo, in his Brazil national away kit, Rudd Van Nistelrooy in holland away kit, Sergio Conceicao in Inter Milan home kit, with Javier Saviola in Barcelona home kit completing the set.
All are superb choices of popular players and of figures that sold well and i imagine Corinthian offered these 4 figures for the range, to clear unpainted stock, as opposed to being hand selected by the Japan distributor. A very fine set of figures which were initially very hard to acquire, with each blister pack coming with a collector card.
