The Corinthian collectors market in Japan had risen so much that in 2003 they had their own dedicated collector's club, organised by the distributor in Japan, Foot Circle.
The 4 exclusive figures that members would receive upon joining the collector's club were most certainly worth the membership fee. David Beckham was, by this point, very much an idol in Japan, so his inclusion in any range was a must. This was a new sculpt and used just once and for me is the best Beckham sculpt Corinthian produced. Beckham is in the long sleeved England home kit he wore when he scored that iconic last minute free kick against Greece in the qualifiers. This Beckham is a very collectible figure nad had it been done in a blister it would have escalated it's popularity further still.
Joining Becks in the set is Javier Saviola, in Barcelona kit. At this time Saviola was being lorded as the new Maradona, however he would never live up to that monumental billing and expectation. A superb figure in a great kit, one which certainly caught collector's eyes.
Italy's Serie A has always been immensley popular in Japan, so it was no surprise to see a figure from that league feature in this release, and what better figure than Alessandro Del Piero in Juventus away kit. A superb figure and a must for any collection.
Completing the quartet of figures in the Japan Collecotr's club set is the only figure ever to be released as part of the ProStars range for Spanish giants Real Madrid! The figure was Luis Figo in Real Madrid away kit, however there was some dispute over whether a license had been fully acquired to release this figure, reason being the Real Madrid license could not have been cheap and it certainly could not have been profitable to release just one figure, because of course the Real Madrid license deal collapsed, so make your own minds up.
A great set of 4, all issued in clear sachet format with collector cards. Given how the Japanese market covet blister packs, it was surprising not to see these 4 released as blisters, would certainly have increased both collectibility and price of the figures.
