The Corinthian ProStars International Tournament Greats series was a way of remembering the great players from the majpr tournaments, those players who shone on the biggest stage. There are 26 figures in the series, the first being released in May 2003 and the last in June 2007.
May 2003 saw the introduction of the International Tournament Greats to the ProStars collection, with 4 figures initially being released. The 4 figures chosen were those who performed well at the 2002 World Cup. El Hadji Diouf was released for Senegal and Ahn Jung-Hwan for South Korea, who were surprise semi finalists. Losing finalists Germany had Olivier Kahn and Michael Ballack released, this was the first time Ballack had been released as a Corinthian ProStars figure and proved immensely popular.
September 2003 saw another 5 figures released in the ITG series, all had previously been released as part of the Club Gold World Greats series, so this re release in different kits gave new and old collectors alike the chance to acquire these players are much lower prices. The 5 released were Marco Van Basten in Holland away kit, Franz Beckenbauer in West Germany away kit, Ferenc Puskas in Hungary away kit, Alfredo Di Stefano in Spain away kit (Di Stefano had dual nationallity with Argentina) and Michel Platini in Frace away kit.
May 2004 saw the inclusion of another 5 legends to the ITG series, all of which were first time releases. Mario Kempes for Argentina, Rivelinho for Brazil, Teofilo Cubillas for Peru, Gerd Muller for West Germany and Roger Milla for Cameroon. The Milla figure is the stand out one from this series, a spot on sculpt and a great way to remember one of the stars of the World Cup, who can forget his goal celebration dancing around the corner flag, it really is an iconic footballing moment.
Another 4 ProStars were released under the ITG banner in September 2004, all are genuine legends. Dunga for Brazil, Guiseppe Bergomi for Italy, Ossie Ardiles for Argentina and Alexi Lalas for USA. The Lalas sculpt is superb, that bright Orange goatee making it a instant hit with collectors.
The 2005 Cornthian Convention, which took place in June, saw 4 more figures released, which were made up of those who performed well at the 2004 European Championships, with Bebeto Brazil in their for good measure. The other 3 were Wayne Rooney in England away kit, Milan Baros in Czech Republic Home kit and Theo Zagorakis in Greece home kit.
The 2007 Corinthian Convention saw the last 4 figures released in the ITG range of ProStars, with the range featuring thoe who had impressed during the 2006 World Cup. Fernando Torres was released for the first time and in Spanish home kit and there was a new sculpt of Zinedine Zidane in France home kit, however he left the tournament and football by headbutting Marco Materazzi in the final! Miroslav Klose got his first and only Corinthian ProStars figure release, as did Juan Roman Riquelme. This set was very popular with collectors and the only figures from the entire ITG series to have Platinum blister packs released.
The figures came in blister pack with collector card, which featured stats of that player during the tournament that the kit is from. From the September 2004 release onwards, the collector cards were all individually numbered.
